Folli Follie lips bag

This clutch bag is another of the goodies on loan from Folli Follie. It came in very handy for nights out over the festive period.

I’ve got black evening bags of my own, but like the quirky black and white lips detail on the front of this one. Worn here with my sequinned jumper and asymmetric skirt:

I’ll be sorry to see this one go!

Simple things

My current favourite things. A minimalist matt gold necklace from Cos (£25) which seems to go with everything and is really comfortable to wear. It’s very light so you don’t notice you’ve got it on – and this from someone who has a real issue with things (particularly hands!) round her neck:

And a super-soft grey jumper from Topshop with subtle neck and waist detailing (reduced from £36 to £18 in the sale):

Looking forward to a relaxed weekend at home. Have a good one!

Dotty shoes

On Friday morning I left my flat with a weekend bag, ready to head to Edinburgh straight from work. The reason for the weekend away was my friend Vicky’s big birthday do at the amazing Prestonfield House.

I’d packed my lace dress and the only thing missing were my black heels, which I thought were under my desk at work. Unfortunately on arrival at the office I remembered that the shoes were actually lurking at the back of the hall cupboard – doh!

Cue a Saturday spent shopping for a substitute pair, which I found in Topshop in the form of these black and green dotty heels  (reduced from £60 to £20 in the sale). Worn here with a more day-to-day outfit:

They’re very cute but I won’t pretend they’re comfortable. I had a great night wearing them though and managed to keep them on til 3am – until the opportunity for dancing in the whisky bar demanded that they were flung off!

Thanks to Vicky for a fabulous night and to Prestonfield House for not batting an eyelid at me running to the Ladies in my stocking soles!

Catbird jewellery

I discovered the Catbird NYC jewellery site via The Glamourai blog last week and immediately fell in love with the super-thin gold Threadbare rings:

They’re $34 each, which equates to a very reasonable £23. Unfortunately shipping and taxes push the price up to £69.

They also stock a designer called Satomi Kawakita who does beautifully delicate rings. F Scott Fitzgerald wrote about a diamond as big as the Ritz but I’d be happy with this tiny diamond ring:

This finger bracelet is on the wish list too:

I’ll just need to wait til I’m next in New York (could be a long wait!) to get my Threadbare ring. Unless anyone knows of any UK jewellery stores that do skinny rings like these?

Back to school bag

First day back at work after the Christmas hols – made easier by the half-eaten selection box I’d left on the top of my in-tray. After 3 hours, 4 coffees, a Crunchie, Flake and finger of Fudge I felt just about back in the swing of things!

This is what I wore, minus the gold satchel. I ordered it from Asos (where the size of the bags aren’t included in the product description), deliberated over it for ages then decided it was just that wee bit too big and bulky - it’s the 14 inch one – and would be getting sent back.

P1000752

Then today I came across the neon pink 13 inch version reduced from £98 to £40 in Urban Outfitters and – after a bit of advice from Twitter - snapped it up.

The colour is insane – much brighter than in the pic but I think I’ll use it a lot. It’ll certainly brighten up my boring grey and camel coats!

P1000780

I do prefer the metallics to the neons. But although the satchels are really good quality, I’m pretty fickle so don’t buy into the bag for life/investment item concept as I get bored so quickly. For that reason I’m happier spending £40 on the neon pink than dropping £130 on re-ordering the gold one in a smaller size.

What do you think – right or wrong decision?

The long and short of it: part 2

Another asymmetric skirt from a recent Zara order:

This one has been tried on at home with lots of different things but I feel the ‘half and half’ style looks a bit odd, so it’ll be getting returned as soon as I can face the shops again (which may be some time!).

What would you wear with this with to make it work?

PS Happy New Year! Let’s hope it’s a good one.

Anchor dress

There was a change of outfit plan on Christmas day and I decided to wear this dress that I bought from Oasis recently. I love the tea dress shape, the tie that nips in the waist and the cute anchor print:

Luckily it was long enough to protect my modesty when see-sawing with my nephews!
