Leather & lace

This lace top, which I’ve liked for a while, is down from £35 to £15 in the Warehouse sale (and on pay day as well – sometimes fate is a kind mistress!).

I’ve teamed with it my leather midi, which I haven’t worn as much as I’d like since most of my tops are long and drown it. This lace one is great though as it’s tuck-inable:

Today’s title is from a song by Stevie Nicks. Much as I love the lady, I have absolutely no idea what her lyrics are on about:

Lovers forever…face to face
My city or mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather…
Take from me…my lace

Hmmm…take from that what you will! Perhaps Will Ferrell and Dave Grohl will shed light on it:

Happy weekend, have a good one.

Pearl Lowe for Peacocks preview

In anticipation of the new Pearl Lowe for Peacocks range launching on Thursday, here’s a wee preview of my favourite dresses from the collection…

A black version of the AW10 sell-out bow dress (the white one was lovely but black is infinitely more wearable):

Cute monochrome polka dots:

Red print:

All the dresses cost £40, which is good value – although it makes me laugh when magazines say things like ‘at that price you can afford to buy them all!’ My clothes budget can’t quite stretch to that sadly!

The dress I’ll be going for is the red one – love the print. Which one would you buy?

White tux

Abandoned all thoughts of a white leather jacket when I saw this tux style blazer in Toppers – love at first sight:

A white jacket with rolled up sleeves – so Miami Vice!

Hope you’ve had a great weekend. Mine has been lovely, not sure I’m ready for Monday yet though. Roll on Bank Holiday season!

Nun dress

This knitted dress has been a wardrobe staple for the last couple of months but – with a little bit of luck – the weather will soon be too warm for it (it was a gorgeous day in Glasgow today).

The white collar is a bit nun-like. While I do like the monochrome look, I’ve been wearing it with coloured tights to lift it. These gold sparkly ones are current favourites:

Of course, the other way to avoid looking like a nun is to accessorise with a large vino and a devilishly decadent man! Happy weekend – may yours involve both!

White leather

Although red leather seems to be this season’s hottest look there’s something about white leather that really appeals to me. I saw this Topshop biker jacket last week but, while I like it, my sensible head would never let me spend £140 on it (partly because the cropped style would make me look a bit pear-shaped):

I can’t say the same of this River Island option though. Flattering shape! Studs! Only £59.99! (Ok, it’s not real leather but who cares!):

Help, I think I’m in love! Do I or don’t I? What do you think? Would it be as versatile as black or would it be a mad buy?

I guess you’d say…

…that with my love of jeans it was about time I got myself a pair of denim shorts. Well, it’s funny you should say that as I’ve been searching for a pair for some time  now.

I came across what seemed to be the perfect pair on a shopfloor dummy in Next the other week. As Sod’s law would have it there were none available in my size, but a nice young man checked the stockroom then confirmed that the dummy was wearing the one available pair that would fit me. He roped in a colleague and between the three of us there was much hilarity as we wrestled with the mannequin to get the shorts off.

Halfway through (while tussling with a torso) I did have a horrible thought of ‘Oh God, I haven’t asked the price. What if, after all this, I can’t afford them!’ But I needn’t have worried – they were only £18. I really like them and they’re pretty versatile as they can be worn turned up or down:

You might be old enough to remember the film Mannequin (but probably aren’t!). On the pluses, it featured the very cute Andrew McCarthy. On the minuses, very slim pickings musically but this is a gem (clip is from the Temptations film – love the purple suits and the dance routine!):

Hope you’ve had a good weekend.

Take10 challenge: Spoiled Brat

For this month’s Take10 challenge we were asked to choose a top from Spoiled Brat. Although we were free to pick anything we liked, there were a few doublers (I shamelessly copied Sherin’s choice!):

You probably can’t read it but the top has The Grateful Dead written on it, along with the rose from their American Beauty album cover. I teamed it with my leather midi skirt – probably a bad move since the high waist hides a lot of the T-shirt design!

I’m not a big Deadhead but I do have a soft spot for them as they’re such a definitive San Francisco band. Two of my best friends live there and I’ve visited a few times, so this top makes me think of  days spent wandering round Haight-Ashbury (hours and hours lost in Amoeba Music!) or lazing about in Mission Delores park with a picnic lunch. Happy times.

To view everyone’s outfits in more detail visit Jen at A Little Bird Told Me, MJ at Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres, Sherin at HiFashion , Vicki at Magpie Girl, Adele at Molto Curiosa, Paula at PinkBow, Ellie at Pretty Much Penniless, Sabine at Psynopsis and Harriet at Where Is Harriet?.

Thanks to Spoiled Brat for sponsoring this month’s challenge and to Sabine for making the collage.
