Sequinned blouse

I got this blouse from a little boutique in Shawlands called Blush. I’ve bought a few things in there since it opened last year. It’s great to have local shops you know you’ll be able to find something you like in without having to trail into town.

It’s got a sequinned Peter Pan collar – two of my favourite things in one item!

Hope you’ve had a good weekend.

Look, no hands!

For this month’s Take10 challenge we were asked to style a camel cape from ASOS. Here’s how we did:

asoscape

The cape’s pretty voluminous so definitely needs to be accompanied with something slimline on the bottom half. I went with black shorts and gold brogues to lift the colour palette a little. I wish I’d shown more of my arms in this pic as it looks a little odd with hands stuffed in pockets!

The cape took a wee bit of getting used to but I feel much more confident wearing it after seeing how great it looks on the rest of the Take10 girls.

To view everyone’s outfits in more detail visit Jen at A Little Bird Told Me, MJ at Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres, Sherin at HiFashion , Jazmine at Jazzabelle’s Diary, Vicki at Magpie Girl, Adele at Molto Curiosa, Paula at PinkBow, Ellie at Pretty Much Penniless and Sabine at Psynopsis.

Thanks to ASOS for sponsoring this month’s challenge and to Adele for making the collage.

Stripey jumper

This jumper is the last of my January sale bargains. It’s from the Kate Moss at Topshop collection and was reduced from £45 to £25. I like the colours and the slight sparkle through it.

The day I wore this outfit I’d just rediscovered the gilet at the back of the wardrobe. Don’t think my photographer was too impressed with it though – feedback was ‘That thing looks like it’s about to leap off you and attack someone! ‘ Oh dear!

The good thing about this jumper is that it’s quite light so I’ll be able to wear it through to spring (hmm – think in Scotland that means somewhere around August!).

Leather trousers

The faux leather trousers that Jen wore at the Next event have been popular with lots of bloggers. At £32 they’re great value but unfortunately aren’t a good fit on me (baggy round the waist and a wee bit too short):

After failing to find anything else on the high street I ordered this leather pair from Asos, but they were slightly too big (and I think leather is likely to stretch?). I did really like them though so have re-ordered in a smaller size:

There was nothing instore in Toppers but I found this faux leather pair online – the ankle zips are a nice touch:

Fingers crossed one of them will fit! There’s obviously a significant price difference between real and faux leather. What do you think – is it worth investing in the real thing or is faux just as good?

Old friends, they shine like diamonds

This coat was the very first thing I ever posted on this blog - way back when! I’ve recently re-discovered it and have been wearing it loads. Grey is a welcome relief from all the camel of winter 2010/11 and I really like the pleat detailing:

The only thing to be careful of is running the risk of looking like you’ve forgotten to put your skirt on when wearing it over something equally short – as demonstrated in this pic from a recent night out:

This is a bit off topic but the heading of this post  is a lyric from the song ‘Old Friends’ by Guy Clark. I first heard it 20 or so years ago when a friend put a version that had Emmylou Harris singing backing vocals on the end of a mix tape.

I haven’t managed to find that version online but you can watch Guy perform the song below. It’s a bit soppy but this song has always meant a lot to me because I’m lucky enough to be blessed with an amazing bunch of long-term friends and, as the song says, ‘Lord, you can’t buy ‘em’!

Happy weekend.

Next blogger event

I was delighted to be invited to the Next blogger event at their Leicester HQ last week as I’d never been to anything like that before. After meeting up with the rest of the blogger gang on the VIP coach, the day kicked off with breakfast canapes and a presentation from the Next team on the S/S ’11 range:

The pics below show my favourite items. There were lots of lovely sheer things:

Sequins! This is very Whistles-esque but should hopefully be a more affordable price point:

Everyone fell in love with this:

The next part of the day was a styling challenge and photoshoot. I was given these wide-legged trousers to wear and I have to admit they’re a million miles away from my normal style and not what I would have picked of my own accord. However, they felt lovely on (v swishy!) and I really liked the little denim jacket I’m wearing (thanks to Jasmine for this shot of me taken while I was doing the official photos):

Next put on a lovely lunch afterwards and the champagne was flowing! It was brilliant to meet up with so many bloggers. Big thanks to Next and Spreading Jam for a fab day.

Cold comfort

This is a dressed down outfit from a couple of weeks back when I was full of the cold and feeling sorry for myself!  The aran cardi is a recent purchase – I snapped it up when it was reduced from £40 to £20 in the Asos sale:

The boots were a gift from Deichmann Shoes. They’re really comfy, thanks to the wedge heel, and great value for money at £24.99:

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
