It’s become a bit of an annual tradition for my friend Susan and I to meet up for Christmas lunch at The Horseshoe Inn in Eddleston in the Scottish Borders.
There’s nothing in Eddleston other than the inn, a few houses and a phone box, which is part of its charm. It’s only a few miles along the road from Peebles (where Susan lives) but feels miles away from everything.

Although there’s a formal restaurant part, we always book a table in the cosy bar area. The menu’s the same and has a strong French influence. This time I had game terrine, followed by salmon fishcakes with French fries – perfection!

Enjoying a glass of mulled wine in the lounge. I’m wearing a graphic print sweater from Gap. The wolf design looks quite subtle in real life, but very pronounced on film!

My favourite phone box in the whole wide world (apart from the one in Local Hero!):

If you’re ever in the Borders, do pop into the Horseshoe. It’s a really special place.
