Books & booze

River Island always seem to bring out sparkly things for their sale that I’ve never seen instore or on the website. In the January sale I got a black and gold lurex cardi (never worn yet as it screams Christmas night out) and last week I found a cream sequinned jacket (reduced from £50 to £30).

Wore the jacket for a shopping trip round Chester last weekend. It was far too hot a day for it really, but  when I get something new it has to be worn immediately!

Had a chat with author Caroline Smailes in Waterstones. Her new novel is beautifully written and very moving (and comes highly recommended by Chris Cleave).

Ever thought of a career in travel photography, Sarah? Your photos always look so professional and inviting.
My Grandma was from Chester but I haven’t been in years.
Love the cardi. I bagged some RI sequin harems in the January sales down from £55 to £3 which I adore.
Bookwise I’ve just finished the Girl with the Dragon tattoo trilogy, a gripping read, definately recommended.

I’m so the same with new purchases – last weekend I was parading round the house in a faux fur jacket, sweating and sweltering!

Love the sequins. I’m so behind with my reading – at the moment, I have The Little Lady Agency in the Big Apple to read. Can’t wait to get started, it’s supposed to be great! xx

@Vix – Oh, I just finished the 2nd ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ book last night (power read it as the girl who lent me it was moving to London today and needed it back!). Will def read the 3rd one to see how it all pans out, but would quite like to move onto something funny after that.

Heard the last Nick Hornby is good, but no idea what it’s about.

You look lovely in the sequins. Your weekend sounded very relaxing!

Oh and the last Nick Hornby is fantastic! I read it a few weeks ago and couldn’t put it down. I completely recommend it.

    Your cardi is amazing, xoxo

  8. Marchmusings

The cardi is so sweet. I’m lagging behind on my reading. Must catch up on it soon.

  9. Sleekit

You look great in the sequin cardie! Would love to recommend a book but I seem to have my nose in a ‘taming toodler’ book on account of my son reaching the 2’s

    Have a great weekend

That sequin jacket is to DIE for!

I’m currently (re)-reading The Golden Compass and will move on to the other His Dark Materials books. It was a childhood favorite and I’m loving it still! :)

  11. Lady Bug Says

That sequin jacket was made for you! I tend to read trashy chick lit novels! The charity shops seem to be full of them, sitting there waiting to feed my habit!

  12. Alex

Oh I love that jacket! I tried on a fab cream sequinned and beaded waistcoat in River Island yesterday but didn’t quite think I’d get any wear out of it so put it back. Bah, slightly regretting it now!

I second what Vix said – your photos are always amazing. What type of camera do you use?

I could recommend books until they came out of my ears! What sort of genres do you like?

  13. Sarah

@Alex – thanks for the kind comment. I just have a wee Fujifilm Finepix camera. I only started taking photos a few months ago but it’s great to hear you like them as I do enjoy it. Thinking of doing an evening class in it this autumn to learn more.

On books, I tend to read a lot of the Richard & Judy recommendations. Also really like Jonathan Coe and quite enjoy a mystery (quite like Sue Grafton).

I wonder how they make the sparkly things suddenly appear… In any case the jacket looks lovely on you!
My major 2 reads lately were ‘Anna Karenina’ and the new Sookie Stackhouse novel (Charlain Harris, the books to the True Blood series). Though very different, both enjoyable. xo

I’m going to Chester on Monday! 20 mins from me and I hardly ever go, silly really as it is such a lovely place. Plus there is a Lush there! I agree with everyone else, your photos are really good.

Cute jacket, it looks tres chic, especially with the all black ensemble. Then again, I’m a sucker for anything shiny.

Are all your buildings made of bricks?

  22. Sarah

@Kiki – yep, most buildings in the UK are made of stone to stand up to the British weather!
